The New York State DanceForce first came together in the mid-1990s as a think tank to examine the problems
facing dance and the opportunities afforded it: issues of audience development, community development, dance
literacy, and access to artistic and financial resources. We are a network of committed activists—presenters,
administrators, choreographers, and dancers—working
every day to connect our art to our communities throughout the state.
Each member of the DanceForce receives annual support allocated
toward one or more projects. Over the past dozen years, we have funded almost 200 initiatives. And twice a year
we come together to share information and ideas.
